The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that leg spinner Zahid Mahmood will join the national test squad as the 16th player for the pre-test camp in Multan.
The squad will be trimmed to 15 members for the first test starting October 7. Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Ali will serve as reserves, continuing to play domestic matches to stay match-fit.
According to the PCB, all three players are part of the Pakistan test team’s setup, but 15 players are sufficient for the home test due to cricketing and logistical reasons.
The board believes Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Ali will benefit more from playing domestic cricket rather than sitting out.
Zahid Mahmood’s inclusion strengthens Pakistan’s spin department ahead of the upcoming test series.
