The Magnum Chocolate Party [#MagnumParty16] took place on Wednesday 21st of September 2016 at Pearl Continental in Karachi and presented a journey of curated fine and performance art complemented by fashion.
Indeed this year’s Magnum Chocolate Party brought a twist to the table, drawing inspiration from the art movement of Surrealism, centring around Salvador Dali, and extended this into its collaboration between Chocolate, Art, Dance and Fashion.
The Magnum Chocolate Party 2016 endeavoured to push and question the boundaries of reality; from the live chocolate carpet, through the foyer and on to the main stage, the live performances at this event were conceived and curated to take attendees on an indulgent and surreal journey throughout the night.
The event featured an art gallery curated by the renowned Sameera Raja of the Canvas Art Gallery. Sameera worked with established artists such as Muzammil Raheel, Aamir Habib and Maria Khanamongst others to bring the surrealism inspired theme to life at the Magnum Chocolate Party through their paintings, sculptures and art installations. The foyer also led through to a surrealist inspired photo box, designed by Saira Pagganwala with photography by Nadir Toosy. Elements of dramatic performance art were further witnessed throughout the event from the chocolate carpet hosted by Zara Peerzada, to the foyer area, a live dessert table performance by Natasha Jozi and a live human wall by Wahab Shah who also created almost all of the performance art acts for the event. An unconventional art performance was also crafted by the super star Ali Zafar who revisited his original artistic roots exclusively for this event, presenting his live art piece titled ‘Will you Still Love Her’, enthralling the audience with his painting made live on stage using chocolate, juxtaposing his fine art with elements of performance art through drapery and graphic art elements.
In terms of fashion, capsule collections from maestros Ali Xeeshan, Faraz Manan, Nilofer Shahid and Shamaeel Ansari were presented. Each designer interpreted the theme of surrealism into daring collections inspired by art and chocolate, bringing the relationship between art and fashion alive.
In attendance of this year’s Magnum Chocolate Party were celebrities from the word of entertainment, globally renowned artists, fashion designers, media personalities, entrepreneurs and social personalities alike including Maheen Khan, Deepak Perwani, Mr. and Mrs. Amir Adnan, Nomi Ansari, Adnan Pardesy, Ali Zafar, Mawra Hocane, Quddus Mirza, Sameera Raja, Zhalay Sarhadi, Nida Azwer, Syra Shahroz, Maya Ali, Feroze Khan, Sarwat Gillani, Momal Sheikh, Aamina Sheikh, Alisha Yousaf, Wajahat Rauf, Raana Khan, Ayaz Anis Khan, Junaid Khan and Tapu Javeri to name a few.
