Major League Cricket (MLC) made a groundbreaking announcement today, unveiling the schedule for America’s first-ever professional franchise cricket league. The much-anticipated league is set to kick off on Thursday, July 13, 2023, and will feature 19 matches hosted at two cricket-specific venues in North Texas and Greater Raleigh.
The action-packed tournament will see six MLC teams, comprised of some of the world’s top cricketers, battling it out for the coveted title of the inaugural season champion. The thrilling finale is scheduled for Sunday, July 30, where the ultimate victor will be crowned.
The inaugural MLC match is scheduled to commence at 7:30 p.m. CST on July 13, illuminated by the bright lights of America’s premier cricket venue, the Grand Prairie Stadium near Dallas, TX. The opening clash will feature a clash between the Texas Super Kings and the Los Angeles Knight Riders, with both teams boasting superstar players who have previously represented the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL).
Following the opening fixture, MLC will shift its focus to North Carolina for the second week of competition at Church Street Park in Morrisville. On Thursday, July 20, at 5:30 p.m. EST, the Freedom and the Knight Riders will go head-to-head at the picturesque venue, which is currently undergoing upgrades to expand and enhance its facilities. Six more matches will follow from Friday through Tuesday, determining the four teams that will advance to the finals weekend, while two teams will face elimination.
The highly-anticipated MLC Championship Finals will showcase a series of thrilling playoff encounters at the Grand Prairie Stadium. The journey will begin with the “Eliminator” match on Thursday, July 27, at 3:30 p.m., where the third and fourth seeds will clash, with the winner securing a spot in the “Challenger” match while the loser faces elimination. Later in the evening, the top two seeds will compete in the “Qualifier” match, and the victorious team will progress directly to the championship final.
On the evening of Friday, July 28, the “Challenger” match will take place, featuring the winner of the “Eliminator” game against the loser of the “Qualifier” match. This encounter will determine which team will advance to the Championship Final on Sunday, July 30. The much-anticipated final match, which will crown the inaugural Major League Cricket champion, is set to commence at 7:30 p.m. CST at the Grand Prairie Stadium.
