Mehran Mumtaz’s 11-wicket haul leads Pakistan Shaheens to victory over Zimbabwe A

Pakistan Shaheens secured a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Zimbabwe A on the final day of the first four-day match at the Kwekwe Sports Club. Mehran Mumtaz played an instrumental role for the visitors, picking up six wickets for 110 runs in the second innings and finishing with match figures of 11 for 157 runs.

Zimbabwe A resumed their second innings at 157 for one, still trailing by 139 runs. However, they lost quick wickets and were reduced to 241 for seven. Joylord Gumbie scored his fourth first-class century and was dismissed by Mumtaz for 115 runs, including 15 boundaries. Brandon Mavuta and Faraz Akram stitched a crucial partnership of 75 runs for the eighth wicket. Tanaka Chivanga and Victor Nyauchi added 66 runs for the last wicket, but Zimbabwe A was eventually bowled out for 401, setting a target of 106 runs for the visitors.

In their chase, Pakistan Shaheens got off to a flying start with Imran Butt and Omair Bin Yousuf adding 65 runs for the first wicket in just 9.4 overs. After the departure of Yousuf for 33 runs, Kamran Ghulam followed soon after, leaving Shaheens at 86 for two. Imran Butt and Hussain Talat, who remained unbeaten on 62 and 11 runs, respectively, helped the visitors secure a comfortable victory in just 18.2 overs.

The second four-day match between the two sides will be played at the Mutare Sports Club in Mutare from May 10.
