A brilliant all-round performance by Mohammad Faiq helped WAPDA secure a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Ghani Glass in their second-round match of the President’s Cup One-Day tournament at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium.
Faiq first impressed with the ball, returning figures of 3 for 52 from his 10 overs as WAPDA bowled Ghani Glass out for 200 in 39.3 overs. Faiq then starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 77 off 85 balls (9 fours), leading his team to victory in 41.3 overs.
Ghani Glass Struggles
Despite a resilient knock of 82 by Hussain Talat, who struck 11 boundaries in his 97-ball innings, Ghani Glass faltered after reaching 131 for four. Talat shared a 79-run partnership with Saad Nasim (43), but following Nasim’s dismissal, Ghani Glass’ middle and lower order struggled against the bowling of Faiq, Asif Afridi (3 for 34), and Mohammad Zeeshan (2 for 50).
WAPDA’s Dominant Chase
Chasing 201, WAPDA lost two early wickets but recovered with a crucial 98-run third-wicket stand between Faiq and captain Ahmed Shehzad (71 off 105 balls, 11 fours). After Shehzad’s departure, Faiq and Mohammad Arif (33 not out) ensured WAPDA’s comfortable win with an unbroken 71-run stand for the fourth wicket.
