In a media statement Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that all rounder and former T20 Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team, Mohammad Hafeez will be the stand in captain for the 2nd ODI against Australia.
Azhar Ali will not be playing in the 2nd ODI due to a hamstring injury while batting in the first ODI. Mohammad Hafeez will be the captain in 2nd ODI to be played in Melbourne tomorrow. Based on clinical assessment, Azhar Ali will recover quickly and will return to play in Sydney and Adelaide.
In past Mohammad Hafeez has served as vice captin of ODI and Test teams of Pakistan. He was also appointed captain of Pakistan T20I team in 2012. He lead Pakistan in two consecutive WT20 events in 2012 and 2014.
As a captain, Hafeez led Pakistan to victories over South Africa, the then T20 world chamoions West Indies, India, and Zimbabwe. He equalled the records of most wins as a Pakistani captain in T20Is and most number of away series wins as a Pakistani captain, under his leadership,Pakistan managed to move up to the second position in the rankings.
He also became the first Pakistani captain to hit three fifties in a row and became Pakistan’s leading run scorer in t20Is.
As a result of Pakistan’s exit from the WT20 2014, Mohammad Hafeez apologized on behalf of his team and stepped down as captain.
