Mohammad Haris to Captain Pakistan Shaheens in ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023

Pakistan Shaheens, the defending champions, have announced that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris will lead the team in the upcoming ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023. The tournament, consisting of eight teams and 15 matches, is set to take place in Sri Lanka from 14 to 23 July. The Shaheens will assemble for a training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on 3 July, following the Eid Al Adha holidays, before departing for Colombo on 12 July.

Grouped in Group A, along with India A, Nepal, and Sri Lanka A, the Shaheens are determined to maintain their dominance. In Group B, Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates will battle it out. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, leading up to the final showdown.

The Shaheens’ first match will be against Nepal on 14 July, followed by encounters against India A on 16 July and Sri Lanka A on 18 July.

Leading the team for the first time, 22-year-old Mohammad Haris has already represented Pakistan in five ODIs and nine T20Is. Joining him are other experienced international players such as Arshad Iqbal, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shahnawaz Dahani, and Tayyab Tahir, who have all contributed significantly to Pakistan’s cricketing success.

The complete squad includes Mohammad Haris (captain, wicketkeeper), Omair Bin Yousuf (vice-captain), Amad Butt, Arshad Iqbal, Haseebullah, Kamran Ghulam, Mehran Mumtaz, Mubasir Khan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Qasim Akram, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shahnawaz Dahani, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Tayyab Tahir. The non-traveling reserves are Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Junaid, and Rohail Nazir.

The ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup promises an exciting and fiercely competitive cricketing extravaganza, and Pakistan Shaheens are eager to showcase their skills and defend their title.
