Mohammad Rizwan Acknowledges Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Failures and Calls for Constructive Criticism

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan candidly addressed Pakistan’s dismal performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, admitting the team’s shortcomings and acknowledging the deserved criticism from fans and analysts.

“After the poor show, we deserve criticism. Those who can’t face the flak, cannot succeed,” Rizwan stated in a media talk in Peshawar. He emphasized that the team’s defeat was not due to a single reason but a combination of multiple “weaknesses” that led to Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament.

Pakistan’s unexpected exit at the group stage, including a shocking defeat to the United States, drew widespread criticism from fans, analysts, and former cricketers. Rizwan expressed the team’s disappointment, noting that they failed to meet the nation’s expectations. “It was disappointing for the team members as well, as we could not fulfill the nation’s dreams,” he said.

Addressing rumors of internal conflicts and bias within the team, Rizwan refuted these claims, asserting that every player was committed to playing for the green flag. “The speculations about bias in the team are not true. We all play for the green flag,” he affirmed.

In response to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s comments on the need for “major surgery” within the team, Rizwan acknowledged the chairman’s prerogative. “When you get ill, you get a surgery. He’s chairman of the board, and it is his right. It’s his right whom he wants to retain and whom not,” Rizwan said, showing his support for potential changes aimed at improving the team’s future performances.

Rizwan’s honest reflections and acceptance of criticism highlight the team’s recognition of their failures and the need for significant improvements. As Pakistan’s cricket fraternity looks ahead, these insights may pave the way for strategic changes and a renewed focus on strengthening both batting and bowling departments to reclaim their stature in international cricket.
