Mohammad Rizwan Appointed Vice-Captain for Pakistan Men’s T20I Squad

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has designated Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain of the Pakistan Men’s T20I team. This esteemed position marks a pivotal moment for the 31-year-old, who will serve as the deputy to Shaheen Shah Afridi in the forthcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled to commence on 12 January in New Zealand.

Rizwan, with a commendable T20I career spanning 85 matches, has showcased exceptional batting prowess, accumulating a notable 2,797 runs, which include one century and 25 half-centuries. Renowned for his skills behind the stumps, he has been instrumental, effecting 41 catches and executing 11 stumpings.

Expressing his gratitude for the elevation, Mohammad Rizwan remarked, “It is an honour to be named as the vice-captain of Pakistan Men’s T20I side. I am thankful to the PCB for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am looking forward to working closely with the captain, coaching staff, and my teammates to contribute to the team’s success.”

The Pakistan Men’s T20I squad boasts a formidable lineup featuring a mix of seasoned players and promising talent. The full squad comprises Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain and wicket-keeper), and other prominent names such as Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, and Mohammad Nawaz, among others.

The series, set to unfold in New Zealand, will kick off at Eden Park, Auckland, on 12 January 2024, followed by matches in Hamilton, Dunedin, and Christchurch before culminating with the fifth T20 on 21 January 2024 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
