Muhammad Akhlaq’s Double Ton Dominates Day Two: President’s Trophy 2023-24

The second day of the sixth round of the President’s Trophy 2023-24 witnessed a magnificent display of cricket as Muhammad Akhlaq’s outstanding unbeaten double century propelled Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to a dominant position against Ghani Glass.

WAPDA vs Ghani Glass: Akhlaq’s Masterclass

Ghani Glass had a torrid start to the day, finding themselves bundled out for a mere 60 runs in just 25.5 overs. Ali Shafique of WAPDA wreaked havoc with an extraordinary seven-wicket haul, conceding a mere 14 runs in 10.5 overs. Ghani Glass’ top-scorer Mohsin Riaz managed 18 runs, but the rest of the lineup succumbed to the relentless bowling attack led by Shafique.

In response, WAPDA showcased their dominance with the bat, especially Muhammad Akhlaq, who crafted a brilliant maiden first-class double century. Akhlaq’s unbeaten 202 runs, adorned with 18 boundaries and 10 sixes, demoralized the Ghani Glass bowling attack. Supported by Hassan Abid Kiyani’s half-century (63) and valuable contributions from Ayaz Tasawar (43) and Mohammad Basit (35 not out), WAPDA declared their innings at 366-4, setting a challenging target of 519 runs for Ghani Glass.

As Ghani Glass faced the daunting task of survival before stumps, they managed to score seven runs and lost one wicket in the three overs they faced. The battle will resume on day three with Kashif Ali and Rameez Jnr on the crease.

Muhammad Akhlaq’s remarkable double ton stood as the highlight of the day, putting WAPDA firmly in control of the game against Ghani Glass.
