Muhammad Waseem and Dwayne Bravo’s phenomenal performances help MI Emirates claim third playoffs spot

The DP World International League T20 have witnessed 29 fabulous league matches and the fourth team in the playoffs is yet to be decided. The Sharjah Warriors, who are at the fifth place, will have to defeat Gulf Giants with a better net run rate than Dubai Capitals’ in the final league stage match of the tournament to grab the last place in the business end of the tournament. The Warriors and Giants will be in action at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium today, Monday, 6 February 2023.

The Desert Vipers and Gulf Giants, who are at the top two spots with 14 points each, have confirmed their places in the top-two. Meanwhile, the MI Emirates have finished their league stage at the third place with 11 points.

 

The Dubai Capitals stayed in the hunt for an opportunity to play in the playoffs with a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against MI Emirates at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. They are currently at the fourth place with nine points in the competition, while the Warriors are just behind team with seven points. The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders finished last in the competition with a solitary victory over Sharjah Warriors.

1.    Muhammad Waseem’s 60 vs Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

 

UAE batter Muhammad Waseem smashed his way to 60 runs off 43 balls against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and set up the innings beautifully for the MI Emirates at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday. Waseem struck one boundary and six sixes during his knock to help his team post a total of 180 for four. The MI Emirates won the match by 18 runs and booked a spot in the playoffs with the win.

 

2.    Shimron Hetmyer’s 54 vs Desert Vipers

 

The hard-hitting batter Shimron Hetmyer was in full flow when smacked 54 runs off 35 balls against Desert Vipers at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday. The Gulf Giants player found the boundary twice and hit four sixes during his innings to help his team put up 180 for six in their 20 overs. The Giants won the match by 25 runs and confirmed a top-two finish.

1.    Dwayne Bravo’s three for 37 vs Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

 

One of the most experienced T20 players of all time – Dwayne Bravo showed his magic for the MI Emirates as he picked up three wickets against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday. The West Indian bowled out the dangerous Joe Clarke and then sent Akeal Hosein and Matiullah Khan packing to help his side get the Knight Riders all out for 162.

 

2.    Muhammad Jawadullah’s three for 24 vs Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

 

The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders were cruising to their target 131 when they were at 118 for one, however, UAE fast bowler Muhammad Jawadullah made things a little interesting for the Sharjah Warriors. The speedster dismissed Brandon King, Paul Stirling and Charith Asalanka in quick succession, but the wickets came a little too late as the Knight Riders crossed the line in 16.4 overs with five wickets in hand.

 

The cricket fans are in for the biggest treat of their lives as the playoffs of the DP World ILT20 begin on 8 February 2023 at the Dubai International Stadium. Along with the fantastic cricket on display, the fans will also have a chance to enjoy several games, food trucks and live performances at the Playoffs festival. The exciting carnival will be held at the Playoffs venues from 3 pm onwards on each of the match days.
