Multan Sultans’ Iftikhar Ahmed Penalized for Breaching PSL Code of Conduct

During the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 fixture between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Multan Sultans’ player Iftikhar Ahmed has been fined five per cent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the league’s code of conduct.

Iftikhar Ahmed was found to have contravened Article 2.5 of the PSL Code of Conduct, which specifically addresses the usage of language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during a match.

The incident transpired during the third over of Quetta Gladiators’ batting, wherein Iftikhar Ahmed was noted to have used inappropriate language towards the dismissed batter.

Acknowledging the breach, Iftikhar Ahmed pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Ali Naqvi. Consequently, there was no necessity for a formal hearing to address the matter.

The charge was brought forward by on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Richard Illingworth, who observed the incident and took prompt action in accordance with the PSL’s code of conduct.

This disciplinary action serves as a reminder to all players competing in the PSL to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and respect towards opponents and match officials. With the tournament ongoing, it is imperative for participants to adhere to the established rules and regulations to ensure the integrity and goodwill of the competition.
