Muneeba Ali Leads Pakistan to a Consolation Win Over Bangladesh in T20I

Pakistan managed to secure a consolation victory in the third T20I match against Bangladesh, defeating the hosts by 31 runs at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday evening. Despite Bangladesh already winning the T20I series 2-1, Pakistan showed their mettle in the final match, ensuring it wasn’t a clean sweep for the home team.

In today’s encounter, Pakistan made two significant changes in their playing XI. Wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi and right-arm fast bowler Waheeda Akhtar, both making their T20I debuts, were included in the side in place of Iram Javed and Diana Baig.

Chasing a target of 133, the Bangladesh batters struggled to score freely, with the Pakistani bowlers consistently taking wickets. At the halfway stage, Bangladesh found themselves at 47 for three, requiring 86 runs off the last 10 overs. As the innings progressed, Bangladesh’s batting lineup faced a collapse, managing just 101-9 at the end of their 20 overs. Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Sadia Iqbal and Aliya Riaz with two wickets each, played a crucial role in restricting the hosts.

In the final over of the match, Waheeda Akhtar registered her maiden T20I wicket when she dismissed Sanjida Akter Meghla for one.

In their innings, Pakistan, who were put into bat, posted a total of 132 for four in their allotted 20 overs. After the early departure of Sidra Amin, Muneeba Ali and Bismah Maroof formed a significant 106-run partnership for the second wicket. Muneeba Ali, in particular, played a crucial role, scoring her maiden half-century with a 49-ball 61, featuring eight fours. Bismah Maroof contributed 48 runs from 49 balls before being dismissed in the final over.

Captain Nida Dar and Natalia Parvaiz remained unbeaten, scoring nine and five runs, respectively. For Bangladesh, left-arm pacer Fariha Trisna claimed two wickets for 21 runs from her four overs.

With the T20I series concluded, both teams will travel to Dhaka for a three-match ODI series, which is part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25.
