Renowned Pakistani actor Nadia Afgan has taken a stand against Pakistani dramas that perpetuate toxic narratives, calling for an immediate ban on productions that follow the “Kabir Singh” tropes. Afgan recently voiced her concerns about the prevalent romanticization of domestic abuse, harassment, and stalking in the local drama industry.
During a guest appearance on the show Chocolate Times, Afgan expressed her disdain for misogynistic dramas, specifically referring to a drama titled Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi starring Danish Taimoor, Durefishan Saleem, and Nauman Ijaz. She criticized such dramas for portraying abusive male figures and their actions as acts of love, firmly stating that this portrayal of love is nothing but “bullsh*t.”
Afgan highlighted the detrimental impact these narratives have on young viewers, emphasizing that they normalize and perpetuate the idea that relentless pursuit and aggressive behavior are acceptable expressions of love. She strongly argued for an immediate ban on all dramas that romanticize or glamorize abusive and psychotic behavior.
“These dramas are teaching young kids that once you like someone, you should go crazy after them and resort to extreme measures. Imagine!” Afgan exclaimed. She stressed the importance of teaching young individuals about consent, acknowledging that both girls and boys have the right to say no. Afgan questioned the need for obsession and encouraged the promotion of healthy relationship dynamics.
In a previous interview with Urdu News, the Parizaad actor revealed why she now chooses her projects selectively. She expressed her frustration with the clichéd scripts that come her way, often revolving around conflicts between family members. Afgan aspires to explore more diverse roles and desires to break free from repetitive storylines.
