Nadia Khan inspires Pakistan women’s football team to claim historic victory in SAFF Women’s Championship 2022

Pakistan women’s team ended the campaign in style as they defeated Maldives 7-0 at their last match in the 2022 South Asian Women’s Football Championship, which took place at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal on Tuesday afternoon.

Nadia Khan inspired the Green Shirts with her stellar performance as she scored four goals, setting a record for the most number of goals by a Pakistani female footballer in a single match.Nadia Khan scored first of her four goals in the 53rd minute, then went on to score another in 78th minute. She completed her hat-trick in the 84th minute and lastly, she brought the score to 6-0 for Pakistan with her fourth goal in the 90th minute.

Rameen Fareed scored the first goal for Pakistan at the tournament and in the last eight years. In the 39th minute of the match, she scored a goal with a long shot.

Rameen Fareed, on other hand, registered Pakistan’s first international goal after eight years as she scored the opening goal of the match. Meanwhile, Khadija Kazmi and Anmol netted a goal each. Anmol Hira who has been very spirited on the pitch scored the last goal of the match in the 94th minute, right in the dying moments of the match.

With this thumping win against the Maldives, Pakistan ended its SAFF Women’s Championship campaign on a high note, although they were already eliminated from the competition after initial defeats.

Earlier, Pakistan lost to India and Bangladesh in their first two encounters of the event.

It is worth mentioning here that the SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 is the first tournament in which Pakistan was taking part after FIFA lifted the ban on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) on June 29.
