Pakistan Shaheens took control of the first four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A’ as their fast bowlers, Naseem Shah and Mir Hamza, delivered an exceptional performance, bundling out the visitors for a meager 122 runs on the opening day.
The day started late due to a wet outfield at Islamabad Club, allowing only 46.3 overs of play. However, once the action began, it was the Pakistani bowlers who seized the moment. Naseem Shah and Mir Hamza both took three wickets each, with figures of 3/24 and 3/33, respectively. They were ably supported by leg-spinner Mohammad Rameez Jnr, who claimed 2/41.
Despite winning the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh ‘A’ struggled from the outset. Mahmoodul Hasan Joy was the only batsman to offer resistance, scoring a resilient 65 runs. His lone effort stood out as the rest of the batting lineup crumbled around him. Joy’s consistency against the Shaheens continued, following up on his impressive performances in the Darwin series where he scored 69 and 65 in the two innings.
By the time bad light brought an early end to the day’s play, Pakistan Shaheens had reached 2/0 in their first innings, with Saim Ayub not out on 2.
With a commanding start and momentum on their side, Pakistan Shaheens will look to extend their dominance as they resume their innings on Day Two, while Bangladesh ‘A’ will be desperate to fight back and regain a foothold in the match.
