It wouldn’t be wrong to credit Benaam with bringing back the trend of daily soaps back on Pakistani television that are entertaining, have an engaging storyline and come with a ton of drama. Audiences and fans eagerly wait for every episode of the show every day and watch it avidly on television and on YouTube.
This week’s episodes packed in a lot of interesting developments. Aisha (Ghana Ali) and Umer (Saad Qureshi) got married to Tooba and Arsalan. On the night of the wedding, we learn that Arsalan is completely indifferent towards Aisha which continues to be the scene throughout the rest of the episodes. Turns out, he only married her for Tooba’s sake.
Laiba (Shazeal Shoukat) continues to be the entitled brat who wants Haider (Noor Hassan) and makes a fuss each time she sees him with Aimal (Anoushay Abbasi) and Aiza (Komal Meer).
Umer visits his uncle Taimoor’s (Babar Ali) place for dinner with Tooba and his mother. There, Aimal learns that Umer has gotten married to someone else. She is devastated and feels betrayed.
Aiza tells Haider to leave them alone because of the insult they have to face at Laiba’s hands. Haider then confesses his love for Aiza which Laiba overhears and she creates another scene.
Aiza tells Aimal what happened and she is happy that Haider loves Aiza and cares for her.
Rabia (Nadia Hussain) hatches a plan to get Aiza married to Babar (Imran Aslam) in Taimoor’s absence even though he wants to marry Aimal. She says Aiza is better and prettier and he can torment Aimal by inflicting pain on her sister.
On the day of the nikkah, Aiza slits her wrist when she is being forced to marry Babar. Haider arrives at the right time and rushes Aiza to the hospital.
Haider wants to provide protection and integrity to Aiza. He tells Taimoor he wants to marry her.
Aimal is relieved that Aiza is okay. She vows to never leave her alone.
Haider and Aiza get married in a small ceremony but they don’t tell about it to anyone else.
Haider is upset with his mother for being an accomplice to Rabia and Babar’s crime.
Rabia pretends that she is ashamed of her mistakes and apologizes to Aiza in front of Taimoor.
Haider tells Aiza how lucky and blessed he feels after getting married to her.
When Haider’s mother insists him to get married to Laiba, he tells her the truth about marrying Aiza. She is angry and forces him to divorce Aiza immediately.
Haider discusses this with Taimoor who accidentally reveals that Laiba and Aiza are sisters and in Islam, two sisters can’t be married to a man at the same time. He then tells her about how he didn’t know about his daughters when he left their mother. Haider is upset and disappointed with Taimoor for being unable to provide protection to his daughters who have faced a series of troubles.
Talking about performances, it goes without saying that Noor Hassan’s Haider is very much the driving force of the show. He was the knight in shining armor who saved the day and stopped Aiza’s life from getting destroyed. He remained steadfast in the face of adversity and did what was right. He is soft and tender while also being firm and stern when needed. Hats off to Noor Hassan for knocking it out of the park with his performance.
Anoushay Abbasi as Aimal is another stellar performer. She is the protective big sister who everyone wants. Her scenes with Aiza are some of the best of the show. The two are sibling goals who are always there for each other. Aimal’s breakdown after learning of Umer’s marriage was heartbreaking and Abbasi nailed it.
Saad Qureshi is brilliant as Umer, a man who is caught between family and life’s troubles. He commands your presence in every scene. His helplessness in front of Tooba’s antics is spot on of a man who has no idea of how to deal with an overbearing partner who wants to keep a check on him at all times. He isn’t hapy with his marriage and it shows which is testament to Qureshi’s performance.
The other actors are first rate too. What will happen when everyone will learn of Haider and Aiza’s marriage? Will Haider divorce Aiza according to his mother’s wishes? How will everyone learn of Taimoor’s truth and what will happen then? To find out, keep watching Benaam every day on ARY Digital.
