Pakistan Cricket Board Announces National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2023/24 Schedule and Squads

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled the schedule for the National Women’s One-Day Tournament 2023/24, featuring six regional teams set to compete in the 50-over tournament. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on 17 April and conclude on 11 May, culminating with the final match to be held at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

The six regional teams participating in the tournament include Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, and Rawalpindi. Matches will be played on a double round-robin basis, ensuring each team plays a minimum of 10 matches, with a total of 31 matches scheduled throughout the 25-day tournament. Matches are set to commence at 9:30 am local time.

The winning team of the tournament will be awarded PKR one million, while the runners-up will receive PKR 0.5 million. Additionally, individual accolades include the player of the tournament receiving PKR 50,000, and the player of the match in each game being awarded PKR 20,000. The top performers in various categories such as best batter, best bowler, and best wicket-keeper will each receive PKR 25,000.

The squads for the six regional teams have been announced by the four-member women’s national selection committee led by Saleem Jaffar. Each team consists of 15 players, with an additional five players in reserve. Notably, the 15th player in each squad will be selected from the list of probable players from the Pakistan women’s series against West Indies, with a total of 30 reserves available for selection.

Head of Women’s Cricket, Tania Mallick, expressed her delight at the increased pool of players participating in the tournament, highlighting the opportunity for budding cricketers, including promising U19 players, to showcase their talents and gain valuable experience on a larger stage.

Chief Selector Saleem Jaffar emphasized that the selection committee assembled the squads after thorough consultation with regional coaches, considering players’ performances in previous domestic tournaments and their fitness levels.

The tournament presents an opportunity for players to demonstrate their skills and catch the attention of the selection committee ahead of the upcoming England tour.

The tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of women’s cricket talent in Pakistan, with regional teams vying for supremacy in the prestigious competition.
