The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, Mr. Zaka Ashraf, has expressed deep concern and alarm over the delay in the issuance of visas for fans and journalists scheduled to travel to India to cover the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
In a meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Syrus Sajjad Qazi, Mr. Ashraf highlighted the critical issue of delayed visas and requested the Foreign Secretary to take immediate action by approaching India’s Home Ministry through the Pakistan High Commission Office in New Delhi. The PCB is particularly worried about the uncertain situation regarding visas for Pakistani journalists and fans, who play a pivotal role in covering and supporting the national team.
Furthermore, the PCB has been monitoring recent reports of security threats in the Indian media. The board has urged the Pakistani government to thoroughly assess the security situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the Pakistan cricket squad during their stay in India for the World Cup. The security of the players remains a top priority for the PCB.
Expressing their disappointment, the PCB emphasized that it is disheartening to witness that journalists and fans from Pakistan are still uncertain about obtaining Indian visas for covering Pakistan’s matches in the ICC World Cup 2023. The board has once again reminded the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of their respective obligations as per the terms and conditions specified in the Host Agreement. These conditions are in place to guarantee the timely issuance of visas for fans and journalists representing participating teams.
The PCB remains committed to ensuring the smooth participation of Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 and seeks a swift resolution to the visa and security concerns, prioritizing the interests and safety of its players, journalists, and fans. The board will continue to engage with relevant authorities to address these pressing issues.
