Pakistan ended their campaign in the second edition of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup on a high note, defeating Samoa by 52 runs in the 4th Place Playoff at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval on Friday.
The star of the match, Haniah Ahmer, delivered a stellar performance with the ball, taking 4-17 in her four overs. Her efforts ensured Pakistan successfully defended a 137-run total, bowling Samoa out for 84 in 18.5 overs.
After being sent in to bat, Pakistan’s innings was built on contributions from opener Maham Anees (28 off 42 balls, 3 fours), No.4 batter Manahil (17 off 17 balls, 3 fours), and a late blitz by No.6 Fatima Khan. Fatima’s quickfire 25 off 14 balls included three boundaries and one six, propelling Pakistan to 136-8 in their allotted 20 overs. Quratulain chipped in with 13 off 11 balls, hitting two boundaries. Samoa’s Nora Jade Salima was the standout bowler, taking 3-20.
In response, Pakistan’s bowlers struck regularly, reducing Samoa to 49-5. Haniah’s fiery spell with the new ball set the tone, and she was well-supported by leg-spinner Quratulain (2-13) and pacer Fatima Khan (2-19). Samoa’s innings ended at 84, with Verra Farane top-scoring with 19 runs.
