In an exhilarating display of skill and determination, Pakistan hockey team emerged victorious over Malaysia in the Junior Asia Cup held in Oman on Wednesday. The Green Shirts displayed their dominance with a resounding 6-2 victory, securing a spot in the tournament finals for the third consecutive time and the seventh time overall. Their next challenge awaits in the form of a final showdown against arch-rivals India tomorrow (June 1).
Earlier in the day, India showcased their prowess by defeating Korea with an impressive 9-1 scoreline in the first semi-final, setting the stage for an intense clash between the subcontinental rivals.
Pakistan’s triumph was led by the outstanding performance of Abdul Rahman, who showcased his prowess by scoring three crucial goals. Rahman’s exceptional display not only ensured his team’s qualification for the finals but also earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
The match began with Malaysia’s Parabo Tangaraja scoring in the 21st minute, giving his team an early lead. However, Pakistan swiftly responded when Muhammad Safyan netted a goal in the 42nd minute, leveling the playing field.
Abdul Rahman then seized the moment, putting Pakistan in the lead with a goal in the 44th minute. However, Malaysia quickly retaliated, equalizing in the very next minute to keep the match on a knife’s edge.
In a remarkable display of determination, Abdul Hannan Shahid scored a field goal in the 47th minute, providing Pakistan with the lead once again. Not to be outdone, Abdul Rehman found the back of the net in the 48th and 51st minutes, significantly extending Pakistan’s advantage.
With the match nearing its conclusion, Arbaaz Ahmed sealed Pakistan’s victory by scoring the final goal in the 58th minute, leaving the scoreline at a convincing 6-2 in favor of the Green Shirts.
Both Pakistan and India have maintained an unbeaten record throughout the tournament, setting the stage for an epic final clash. The two teams previously met in the final of the 2015 tournament in Malaysia, where India emerged triumphant with a scoreline of 6-2 against Pakistan. As they prepare to renew their rivalry, both sides will be eager to claim the coveted title and etch their names in the annals of Junior Asia Cup history.
