Pakistan Shaheens Trail by 219 Runs on Opening Day Against Bangladesh ‘A’

Pakistan Shaheens found themselves trailing by 219 runs with eight wickets in hand as they concluded the opening day of the second four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A’ at the DXC Arena in Darwin on Friday. Ending the day at 39-2 in 16 overs, the Shaheens bowled out Bangladesh ‘A’ for 258 runs earlier in the day.

Bangladesh ‘A’ won the toss and elected to bat, but Pakistan Shaheens’ bowlers were quick to make an impact. Kashif Ali struck first, dismissing Shadman Islam in the eighth over. Parvez Hossain Emon (30 off 75 balls, 4x4s) then partnered with skipper Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a 60-run stand for the second wicket before Khurram Shahzad broke through, removing Emon.

Khurram and Faisal Akram dealt a double blow to Bangladesh ‘A’, dismissing Amite Hasan (7) and Shahadat Hossain (1) in quick succession, reducing the opposition to 104-4. Captain Mahmudul (69 off 90 balls, 8x4s, 1×6) and Aich Mollah (55 off 80 balls, 7x4s) then formed a crucial 54-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Kashif Ali eventually dismissed Mahmudul, followed by the wicket of Aich Mollah who was caught behind.

Bangladesh ‘A’ continued to lose wickets, with Hasan Murad (0) run out by Haseebullah, leaving them at 188-7. However, vital lower-order contributions from Mahidul Hasan Ankon (31 off 43 balls, 6x4s), Rejaur Rehman Raja (28 off 34 balls, 5x4s), and Ripon Mondol (17 off 40 balls, 2x4s) helped Bangladesh ‘A’ reach a total of 258 runs in 67.3 overs.

For Pakistan Shaheens, Khurram Shahzad was the standout bowler with figures of 3-69, while Kashif Ali (2-21) and Faisal Akram (2-87) also made significant contributions. Kamran Ghulam chipped in with two wickets for just six runs.

In reply, Pakistan Shaheens faced an early setback with Ripon Mondol removing openers Sahibzada Farhan (4 off 13 balls) and Haseebullah (18 off 46 balls, 3x4s). Mohammad Ali (1* off 5 balls) came in as a night-watchman and will resume the innings on day two alongside Omair Bin Yousuf (7* off 33 balls, 1×4).
