The anticipation is brewing as Pakistan’s Men’s Team Director, Mohammad Hafeez, exuded confidence and determination while addressing the media in Perth ahead of the much-awaited Test series against Australia. Setting a bold tone, Hafeez stated that the team is not merely aiming to compete but is geared up to triumph over the Australian side.
Expressing his initial surprise and disappointment with the Canberra pitch during the four-day warm-up match, Hafeez acknowledged the slow nature of the wicket, hinting at a possible strategic move from the Australian camp. Despite this, he emphasized that the Pakistan team remains fully prepared for the upcoming series.
“This Pakistan Test team is well-settled and has a commendable track record. The players are eager and well-prepared to face the challenges in Australia,” said Hafeez, expressing his confidence in the team’s capabilities.
While conveying the team’s excitement to showcase their prowess against the home team, Hafeez highlighted Pakistan’s talent pool, expressing conviction in their ability to outshine the opposition. He confirmed that, apart from Abrar Ahmed’s unfortunate unavailability due to injury, the rest of the squad is fit and ready to take on the Australian challenge.
Regarding Abrar Ahmed’s absence, Hafeez provided assurance, stating, “Abrar Ahmed is currently undergoing rehabilitation and will miss the Perth Test. However, we anticipate his return for the second Test, as he is expected to regain fitness.”
Commenting on the return of Nathan Lyon to the Australian Test squad, Hafeez acknowledged Lyon’s prowess as a formidable bowler but also expressed confidence in Pakistan’s ability to handle his off-spin, citing past encounters where the team has had success against him.
The Pakistan team, buoyed by Hafeez’s positive words, looks poised and geared up to confront the Australian challenge as the first Test match is set to kick off at Perth Stadium on 14 December.
