Pakistan U19 beat Bangladesh U19 by 78 runs in second ODI, take 2-0 lead in series

Pakistan U19 secured a comfortable 78-run victory against Bangladesh U19 in the second match of the five-match one-day series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on May 8th, 2023. The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the series with a dominant all-round performance.

After winning the toss, Pakistan U19 elected to bat first and posted a total of 271 all out on the last ball of the 50th over. Azan Awais, who scored an unbeaten 69 in the previous match, starred with a magnificent century. He scored 105 runs off 125 deliveries, hitting 15 boundaries. Azan had a partnership of 57 runs with Shamyl Hussain and later shared a stand of 126 runs with captain Saad Baig, who contributed with 51 runs. However, after Saad’s dismissal, the tourists lost six wickets for 42 runs, leaving them in a tricky position at 235 for nine in 46.5 overs. Amir Hassan (29) and Aimal Khan (13) then knitted a crucial 36-run partnership for the last wicket. For Bangladesh U19, Iqbal Hossain Emmon took four wickets for 72 runs, while Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby bagged three wickets for 52 runs.

In response, Bangladesh U19 struggled to build any substantial partnerships and were dismissed for 193 in 47 overs. Only Shihab James (42) and Adil Bin Siddik (40) were the notable run-getters for the home team. Mohammad Ismail led Pakistan U19’s bowling attack with three wickets for 46 runs, while Ali Asfand, Arafat Minhas, and Aimal Khan each picked up two wickets. The visitors’ bowlers were disciplined and never allowed the hosts to score freely.

Azan Awais was named player of the match for his magnificent century that set up Pakistan U19’s win. Both teams will now travel to Rajshahi to participate in the remaining matches scheduled on 11, 13, and 15 May at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi. The solitary T20 will also be played at the same venue on 17 May.
