In an electrifying encounter at the ICC Cricket Academy Ground, Pakistan U19 emerged triumphant with a convincing eight-wicket win over India U19 in the fifth game of the ACC U19 Asia Cup. Azan Awais stole the spotlight with an unbeaten century, steering Pakistan to victory while chasing a target of 260 set by India.
Opting to field first after winning the toss, Pakistan’s decision seemed justified as the Indian batting commenced steadily after losing two early wickets. Adarsh Singh’s half-century (62) and a well-constructed innings from captain Uday Saharan (60) laid a solid foundation for India U19. Yet, after Singh’s dismissal in the 32nd over, India experienced a setback, struggling to maintain momentum.
Sachin Dhas’ quickfire 58 added momentum to India’s innings, setting a competitive total of 259-9 in 50 overs. The Pakistan pace attack, led by Mohammad Zeeshan’s four wickets, along with support from Amir Hassan and Ubaid Shah, contained the Indian batting lineup effectively.
Chasing the target, Pakistan U19 navigated through the innings smoothly despite the early loss of opener Shamyl Hussain. A formidable 110-run partnership between Shahzaib Khan (63) and Azan Awais set the tone for Pakistan’s chase. Though Shahzaib fell in the 28th over, skipper Saad Baig’s composed half-century (68 not out) added solidity.
However, the spotlight belonged to Azan Awais, who anchored the innings with a magnificent unbeaten century (105 not out) to guide Pakistan U19 to a commanding position throughout the chase. His masterful innings earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
Pakistan U19 comfortably achieved the target in 47 overs, securing victory with eight wickets in hand. The team’s impressive performance sets the stage for their upcoming encounter against Afghanistan U19 on 12 December at the ICC Cricket Academy Ground.
With Azan Awais’ stellar performance, Pakistan U19 displayed resilience and determination, paving the way for a promising campaign ahead in the ACC U19 Asia Cup.
