Pakistan U19 Gains Upper Hand on Day Two Against Sri Lanka U19

Pakistan U19 continued to dominate the one-off four-day game against Sri Lanka U19 at National Bank Stadium, Karachi, as the visitors found themselves in a challenging position at 155-6 by stumps, trailing Pakistan U19’s imposing first-innings total.

On the second day, Pakistan U19 resumed their innings at 319-1 in 90 overs and added a further 114 runs while losing eight wickets. Captain Saad Baig declared the innings at 433, achieved in 121.3 overs.

Opening batsman Shahzaib Khan led Pakistan’s batting charge, scoring an impressive 161 runs from 276 balls, featuring 12 boundaries and one six. His partner, Azan Awais, added a significant contribution with 104 runs off 221 balls, including seven boundaries. Saad Baig himself played a pivotal role with 68 runs from 70 balls, striking six boundaries and one six. Sri Lanka’s Malsha Tharupathi was the top wicket-taker with three scalps, while Vihas Thewmika and Ruvishan Perera took two wickets each.

In response, Sri Lanka U19 posted 155 runs in 56 overs but lost six wickets in the process. Pulindu Perera was the shining light for Sri Lanka U19, remaining unbeaten with a fifty, scoring 53 not out from 71 balls with eight boundaries. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan captain, Sineth Jayawardene, contributed with 38 runs from 45 balls, including seven boundaries. Aimal Khan was the pick of the Pakistani bowlers, claiming two wickets.

Sri Lanka U19 trails by 278 runs going into the third day of the four-day game. Pakistan U19 holds a commanding position and will look to consolidate their advantage further.
