Pakistan recently hosted West Indies Women A and Thailand Women Emerging in a comprehensive series from October 24 to November 11. The tour, designed to provide valuable game time to the women’s bench strength, featured bilateral contests and a T20 tri-series held at Lahore’s Ghani Glass Institute and Gaddafi Stadium.
Pakistan Women A engaged in a competitive three-match one-day series against West Indies Women A, with the visitors securing a 2-1 victory. Captain Rameen Shamim and emerging spinner Anosha Nasir emerged as the leading wicket-takers, both claiming six wickets each. Rameen’s exceptional figures of 4-13 in the third one-day encounter were the standout bowling performance of the series.
In the T20 tri-series final, Pakistan Women A emerged victorious against West Indies Women A, maintaining an undefeated streak throughout the competition. Opening batter Shawaal Zulfiqar showcased her prowess, earning the player of the series title with an aggregate of 106 runs, including an unbeaten half-century. Off-spinners Rameen Shamim and Omaima Sohail jointly topped the wicket-taking charts, each securing five wickets.
Facing Thailand Women Emerging in a two-match T20 series, Pakistan Women A dominated with comprehensive victories in both encounters. Omaima Sohail shone brightly, leading in both run-scoring and wicket-taking categories, amassing 61 runs and delivering the best individual bowling figures (2-3) in the series. Her stellar performances earned her the player of the match accolade in consecutive games.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Pakistan Women A head coach Mohsin Kamal emphasized the importance of such tours for player development, highlighting the contributions of key players like Rameen Shamim, Saima Malik, Anosha Nasir, and the remarkable comeback of Omaima Sohail in the T20 format. He stressed the significance of structuring tours to prepare for ICC events, emphasizing their role in nurturing talent and building a strong foundation for women’s cricket in Pakistan.
