This victory marked Pakistan’s first-ever win over the White Ferns on their home turf and only the second triumph in 17 matches.
The thrilling victory catapults Pakistan to the second position in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 standings, amassing 16 points from 18 matches.
While the ODI series concluded 2-1 in favor of the White Ferns, Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand became historic as they became the first Asian side to clinch a T20I series against the formidable hosts, emerging victorious with a 2-1 series scoreline.
The high-octane clash saw Pakistan chasing 252 to win, culminating in an exhilarating tie as they reached 251 for nine in their allotted 50 overs. Bismah Maroof, adjudged player of the match, led the charge with a resilient 68 off 86 balls, anchoring crucial partnerships including a 101-run stand with Aliya Riaz (44) and a valuable 35-run partnership with skipper Fatima Sana (36). Natalia Parvaiz (26) and Najiha Alvi’s unbeaten 23 further bolstered the Pakistani innings.
In the nail-biting Super Over, Pakistan managed to score 11 runs, largely propelled by Aliya Riaz’s first-ball boundary. Despite Sophie Devine striking a six, Sadia Iqbal’s composure and two crucial wickets secured the historic win for Pakistan by a slender three-run margin.
During New Zealand’s innings, the opening pair of Suzie Bates and Isabella Gaze departed early, setting the stage for a crucial 56-run partnership between captain Sophie Devine (29) and Amelia Kerr (77). Leg-spinner Ghulam Fatima emerged as the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming two crucial wickets, including those of Devine and Kerr, and closing with match figures of two for 59 in her ten overs.
Left-arm spinner Nashra Sundhu contributed significantly as well, grabbing two wickets while maintaining an economy rate to end the White Ferns’ innings at 251 for eight in 50 overs.
