The excitement is palpable as the T20 tri-series kicks off today at the picturesque Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Hosted by Bangladesh Women U19, the tournament features the emerging talents of Pakistan Women U19 and Sri Lanka U19, promising a thrilling display of cricketing prowess.
Amidst the anticipation, Mahnoor Aftab, the spirited captain of Pakistan Women U19, is brimming with optimism as her team prepares to clash with Sri Lanka in their opening encounter tomorrow. With six games scheduled in a double-round robin format followed by a riveting final, the stakes are high as these young cricketers aim to make their mark on the international stage.
Mahnoor Aftab, a key player who led Pakistan in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup last year, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge. “This is the first tri-series of its kind for us so it is a really exciting opportunity,” she remarked. “It is a good sign for us as tournaments like these help us showcase our talent and make our way to the senior team.”
Reflecting on her team’s preparation, Mahnoor exuded confidence in their training camps and acclimatization to the Bangladeshi conditions. “The training camps really helped us prepare for the series. We have been training in Bangladesh as well so I am confident about our preparations,” she affirmed. “It helps that Cox’s Bazar is very similar to Karachi so we are already used to playing in such conditions.”
The Pakistan Women U19 squad, comprising promising talents like Laiba Nasir, Eyman Fatima, and Rida Aslam, is poised to unleash their potential on the field under Mahnoor’s astute leadership. With an unwavering commitment to give their best, Mahnoor believes that favorable results are within reach.
As the T20 tri-series unfolds over the next week, cricket enthusiasts can anticipate a captivating spectacle of talent, determination, and sportsmanship. With Mahnoor Aftab at the helm, Pakistan Women U19 aims to leave a lasting impression and stake their claim for glory in Cox’s Bazar.
