The Pakistan Women’s Selection Committee, under the leadership of Saleem Jaffar, has announced the 16-member ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming series against the West Indies women’s team. The series, consisting of three ODIs and five T20Is, will be crucial for both teams in their pursuit of direct qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup.
Five women cricketers have been recalled to the squads, with wicketkeeper-batter Sidra Nawaz returning to the ODI squad after her last appearance in September 2023 against South Africa. For the T20Is, Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza, Rameen Shamim, and Tuba Hassan have been included, bringing a blend of experience and talent to the team.
Notably, Ghulam Fatima has been rested to recover fully from minor injuries sustained in a recent car accident, while Bismah Maroof’s selection is subject to fitness pending a fitness test next week.
Saleem Jaffar emphasized the significance of the series, especially as part of the ICC Women’s Championship, aiming to secure maximum points and enhance Pakistan’s chances for direct qualification to the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. He also highlighted the opportunity for players to stake their claims for the upcoming England tour based on their performances in this series.
The series schedule has been adjusted to avoid clashes with the Pakistan vs. New Zealand Men’s T20I series, with the women’s matches rescheduled to start at 9:30 am for the first two ODIs, and at 3:30 pm for the third ODI. The T20Is will commence at 7:30 pm.
The squad will assemble in Karachi for training sessions from 14 to 17 April at the National Bank Stadium, where the series will also be held.
