The Fatima Sana-led Pakistan Women’s Emerging Team is geared up for their departure from Karachi tonight as they embark on a journey to Hong Kong via Dubai to participate in the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. The highly anticipated T20 tournament, featuring eight teams, is scheduled to take place from 12 to 21 June at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong.
Pakistan has been placed in Group A alongside Hong Kong, India A, and Nepal. The team’s campaign will kick off on 13 June with a match against Nepal, followed by encounters against Hong Kong on 15 June and India A on 17 June. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for 19 June, with the tournament culminating in an exciting final on 21 June.
Prior to their departure, the 14-member squad, accompanied by four reserve players, underwent an intensive 15-day training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi. Under the guidance of the coaching staff, the players focused on various aspects of T20 cricket, participating in improvised drills, net sessions, and scenario-based matches to sharpen their skills and teamwork.
In preparation for the camp, several players also showcased their talents while representing the Strikers team during the first phase of the Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament held in Karachi last month.
Captain Fatima Sana, along with six other players, has already represented the Pakistan women’s team in international cricket. The experienced players include Gull Feroza, Natalia Parvaiz, Sadaf Shamas, Syeda Aroob Shah, Tuba Hassan, and Umm-e-Hani. Additionally, Aroob Shah, Anoosha Nasir, Eyman Fatima, and Shawaal Zulfiqar gained valuable exposure representing Pakistan U19 in the inaugural edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year in South Africa.
Commenting on the upcoming tournament, Fatima Sana expressed her confidence in the team’s preparation and highlighted the importance of carrying the learnings from the training camp into the competition. Acknowledging the formidable opponents in Group A, she emphasized the need for determination, resilience, and a never-give-up attitude from her players in each match.
