Spinners Syeda Aroob Shah and Tuba Hassan showcased their brilliance as Pakistan Women’s team defended a modest total to secure a thrilling nine-run victory against Nepal in their opening match of the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023. The match took place at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan set a target of 88 runs for Nepal. However, the Pakistani batters struggled to find their rhythm and were bowled out for 87 runs in 19.2 overs. Shawaal Zulfiqar top-scored with a resilient knock of 28 runs from 36 deliveries, including one boundary.
Nepal’s bowlers bowled impressively, with Indu Barma leading the attack with three wickets for just six runs in her three overs. Kabita Joshi, Kabita Kunwar, and Sita Rana Magar contributed with two wickets each.
In pursuit of the target, Nepal faced a disciplined bowling performance from the Pakistani spinners. Syeda Aroob Shah and Tuba Hassan wreaked havoc, taking two wickets apiece and never allowing the Nepalese batters to settle. Umm-e-Hani and Anoosha Nasir also chipped in with a wicket each. Nepal managed to score 78 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Kabita Kunwar (20) and Kabita Joshi (15 not out) were the only batsmen to reach double figures for Nepal.
With this hard-fought victory, Pakistan Women’s team displayed their tenacity and teamwork on the field. They will now face hosts Hong Kong in their next match on Thursday, 15 June, at 0600 PKT.
