Pakistan Women’s Team Gears Up for New Zealand Challenge

The Pakistan Women’s cricket team has landed in Christchurch, New Zealand, commencing their preparations for an exciting series of T20Is and ODIs against the hosts. Led by the experienced Nida Dar, the 17-member squad underwent rigorous training under the guidance of interim head coach Mauhtashim Rashid at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln University, Christchurch.

This series, featuring three T20Is and three ODIs, will be a part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. Pakistan, with a total of 15 matches played, has earned an impressive 14 points in this prestigious championship.

The matches are scheduled across Dunedin, Queenstown, and Christchurch. Before the series commences, the Pakistan Women’s Team will engage in two practice games against New Zealand XI. The 50-over match is set for tomorrow at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, followed by a T20 match on Thursday at the same venue. Fans worldwide can catch the action live on the New Zealand YouTube channel, with the games starting at 11 am local time.

Among the contingent is the promising 27-year-old Umm-e-Hani, who debuted against Ireland in 2022. She has swiftly gained recognition, showcasing her skills in both ODIs and T20Is, securing 11 wickets from 13 matches. Eager to perform on her maiden New Zealand tour, Umm-e-Hani expressed her enthusiasm and readiness to contribute to the team’s success.

Speaking to PCB Digital after the training session, Umm-e-Hani mentioned, “The first session was good; we’re adapting to the conditions, which are different from back home. The practice games are vital for us, allowing us to acclimatize better and be well-prepared for the series.”

She added, “I’ve been working hard to evolve as an all-rounder. I aim to play my role effectively and adjust according to match situations.”

Pakistan Squad: The squad comprises Nida Dar (captain), Aliya Riaz, Bismah Maroof, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Ghulam Fatima, Muneeba Ali (wk), Najiha Alvi (wk), Nashra Sundhu, Natalia Parvaiz, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Sidra Amin, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar.
