Pakistani Actress Hira Mani Reflects on Controversial Statements, Emphasizes Importance of Thinking Before Speaking

Pakistani actress Hira Mani, known for her controversial statements, has expressed that she has learned the importance of “thinking before speaking” after facing criticism from social media trolls. Mani, who has been a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry for over a decade, reflected on her experiences and the need for caution in expressing opinions.

Having started her career as a TV presenter before transitioning to acting, Mani has played lead roles in popular television plays such as ‘Do Bol’, ‘Mere Paas Tum Ho’, ‘Kashf’, and ‘Bandish’. Excitingly, she is also set to make her debut on the big screen with the upcoming film ‘Teri Meri Kahaniyaan’, scheduled for release during Eid Al-Adha 2023.

However, Mani has often made headlines for controversial statements that have stirred public debate. In the past, her comments on women’s issues have garnered significant backlash on social media. Last year, she faced widespread criticism for seemingly supporting a case of child marriage and possible abduction. In response to the backlash, Mani later apologized for her views.

Speaking exclusively to Arab News in a recent interview, Mani acknowledged the impact of controversies on her life, stating, “There is a lot of disturbance [due to controversies]. One should think before speaking [and] there is no harm in it.” She expressed the importance of learning from such experiences and emphasized the need for people to avoid misinterpretation and maintain a sense of normalcy and simplicity.

One of Mani’s most controversial statements in 2019 was her assertion that “men were smarter than women,” leading to accusations of irresponsibility, insensitivity, and supporting anti-feminist views. When asked about her stance on feminism, Mani clarified that she stands with women when they face mistreatment and believes that feminism should involve supporting and guiding women, particularly those new to the industry.

Regarding her support for men, Mani attributed her positive experiences with the men in her life but acknowledged that not all women may have had the same privilege. She highlighted the importance of personal experiences shaping one’s perspective.

Mani, who has been married to host and actor Salman Saqib Sheikh since 2008, has always been vocal about her support for her husband. When questioned about accusations of riding on each other’s success, she praised her husband and expressed gratitude that he was more famous than her.

While the couple has previously worked together in sitcoms and drama serials, their upcoming film ‘Teri Meri Kahaniyaan’ marks their first collaboration on the big screen. As part of a multi-director anthology film featuring three different short stories, the segment in which Mani and her husband appear is a horror comedy titled ‘Jin Mahal’, directed by renowned Pakistani director Nabeel Qureshi. Mani expressed the challenges and excitement of working with her husband, acknowledging his extensive experience and ability to adapt to various characters.

Hira Mani’s journey in the entertainment industry has been marked by both success and controversy. As she navigates her career, she has learned the importance of considering her words carefully, understanding the impact they can have, and striving to be supportive and respectful toward others.
