Pakistan’s South Africa Tour Dates Locked In

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled the itinerary for the Pakistan men’s cricket team’s upcoming tour to South Africa, comprising three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests, set to take place in the latter half of 2024.

The tour, scheduled from December 10th to January 7th, will see Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg hosting the T20Is from December 10th to 14th. Following this, the ODIs will be contested from December 17th to 22nd in Paarl, Cape Town, and Johannesburg. The Test matches, crucial fixtures in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, are scheduled to be held at Centurion from December 26th to 30th and at Cape Town from January 3rd to 7th.

The Pakistani side will embark on their journey to Durban on December 2nd, immediately after concluding their series in Australia, which spans from November 4th to 18th. Upon completing their South African leg on January 8th, the team will return home to participate in a three-nation ODI tournament involving New Zealand and South Africa, followed by the prestigious eight-team ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on home soil.

Before heading to South Africa, Pakistan will host Bangladesh and England for two and three Tests, respectively, as part of a packed cricket calendar. This period, spanning from August 2024 to January 2025, will witness Pakistan engaging in a total of seven Tests, at least 10 ODIs, and six T20Is, highlighting the team’s busy schedule.

Notably, this tour marks Pakistan’s seventh Test tour of South Africa since 1994-95. Among their memorable victories include triumphs in the 1997-98 Durban Test and the 2006-2007 Port Elizabeth Test, showcasing Pakistan’s historical prowess in South African conditions.

In the limited-overs format, Pakistan has had a mixed record against South Africa, with victories in two out of the last three ODI series. However, in T20Is, Pakistan holds a narrow lead, winning six out of the 12 encounters, with one match ending in a no-result.

The tour schedule is as follows:

  • December 10: 1st T20I in Durban
  • December 13: 2nd T20I in Centurion
  • December 14: 3rd T20I in Johannesburg
  • December 17: 1st ODI in Paarl
  • December 19: 2nd ODI in Cape Town
  • December 22: 3rd ODI in Johannesburg
  • December 26-30: 1st Test in Centurion
  • January 3-7: 2nd Test in Cape Town
