In a significant stride towards nurturing the burgeoning talent in women’s cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently expanded its spectrum of domestic contracted players to encompass 80 athletes. Among these new additions, 11 budding cricketers have received domestic contracts, signifying a profound commitment to fostering and amplifying women’s cricket within the nation.
This recent induction into the contracted pool includes one player from the emerging women’s category, underlining the PCB’s dedication to supporting exceptional talent emerging from diverse regions. Moreover, the remaining ten individuals earned their contracts based on stellar performances showcased during the Women U19 T20 Tournament held in Muridke this year.
Mr. Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, lauded the young athletes, expressing elation at announcing contracts for these talented U19 and emerging players. He underscored the significance of this step, emphasizing the PCB’s resolute commitment to bolstering the growth trajectory of women’s cricket in Pakistan. The allocation of these contracts heralds a series of affirmative strides aimed at fortifying the women’s cricket landscape, with unequivocal support from the management committee.
Echoing Mr. Zaka Ashraf’s sentiments, Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket, expressed sheer delight in bestowing domestic contracts upon these 11 rising stars. She reiterated the gesture as a testament to the board’s unwavering dedication to invest in the future of women’s cricket in Pakistan. With a vision toward the upcoming U19 World Cup, these contracts mark the inception of a promising chapter in the realm of women’s cricket, showcasing the board’s steadfast commitment towards development.
The 11 players receiving domestic contracts from November 2023 to June 2024 are: Aqsa Yousaf (Multan), Areesha Ansari (Okara), Humaira Ghulam Hussain (Quetta), Kainat Eiman (Karachi), Memoona Khalid (Lahore), Mubeen Ahmed (Rawalpindi), Muqadas Bukhari (Multan), Muskan Abid (Lahore), Saba Sher (Lahore), Samiya Afsar (Lahore), and Shameer Rajput* (Multan) – identified as the emerging talent among these promising athletes.
The initiative not only recognizes individual brilliance but also underscores the PCB’s robust commitment to providing promising young female cricketers with an encouraging platform, fostering a vibrant future for women’s cricket in Pakistan.
