In a significant move to bolster Pakistan’s sporting landscape, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi met with former hockey legends Shahbaz Ahmed Senior and Khawaja Junaid at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore, on Tuesday. The discussion focused on revitalizing Pakistan’s hockey infrastructure, with an emphasis on sustainable reforms and international collaboration.
The former hockey stars commended Chairman Naqvi’s firm stance on the ICC Champions Trophy and the rapid reforms undertaken to strengthen Pakistan’s cricketing structure. They urged a similar strategic approach to rejuvenate the country’s hockey ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of restoring the national sport’s lost glory.
“Hockey is Pakistan’s national sport and holds a proud history of global achievements. Restoring its past glory remains a priority, and we will extend our full support to achieve this,” stated Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, reaffirming PCB’s commitment to multi-sport development.
Shahbaz Senior and Khawaja Junaid shared insights from their visits to top-tier German and Dutch hockey clubs, highlighting successful grassroots programs and youth development strategies. They also briefed the PCB Chairman on the scheduled tour of the German National Junior Hockey Team to Pakistan in March, underscoring the importance of fostering international engagement in reviving the sport.
PCB reiterated its commitment to supporting hockey alongside cricket, working collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure sustainable progress in Pakistan’s sports ecosystem. This cross-sport cooperation marks a promising step towards reclaiming Pakistan’s dominance in the world of hockey.
