PCB Dissents as ICC Pushes Through New Financial Model

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its satisfaction and appreciation for the new ICC financial and distribution model, which will see a significant increase in investment in global cricket. The model, based on various criteria including on-field performance, rankings, and commercial contribution, aims to provide a fair distribution of funds among member boards.

In recent weeks, the PCB has actively sought additional information and clarification regarding the allocation of weightages and calculation of distributions under the new model. With the aim of making an informed decision, the PCB proposed deferring the discussion until the next ICC meeting, citing the need for all relevant information.

However, the majority of members felt it was appropriate to proceed with the model, resulting in its approval. The PCB, while dissenting on principle, acknowledged the rankings and commercial value of the Pakistan cricket team, which led to the board being ranked among the top four nations in the model. This ranking will result in the PCB receiving more than double the revenue compared to the previous cycle.

The increased share of revenue will allow the PCB to make greater investments in the development of cricketing skills, potentially taking Pakistan cricket to new heights. This news has been warmly received by Pakistani fans and the nation as a whole.

During the recent ICC meetings, Mr. Zaka Ashraf, Chair of the PCB’s Management Committee, held productive meetings with officials from other cricket boards. These discussions focused on collaboration and mutually beneficial programs aimed at further developing and growing the sport.

On July 15, a meeting took place between the PCB and ACC officials to finalize the schedule, logistical arrangements, and marketing campaigns for the Asia Cup 2023. The PCB, as the event host, looks forward to announcing the finalized schedule soon. The opening match of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Pakistan, and the PCB is eager to welcome cricket fans from around the world, showcasing Pakistan’s renowned hospitality.

Overall, the PCB is optimistic about the future of cricket, both in terms of financial stability and hosting major events, and remains committed to the growth and development of the sport in Pakistan.
