PCB Shifts Second Test Against Bangladesh to Rawalpindi Due to National Bank Stadium Redevelopment

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the second ICC World Test Championship match between Pakistan and Bangladesh will be relocated to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This decision comes in response to the ongoing redevelopment of the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, which is being prepared to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The PCB, in consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, decided on the venue change to ensure the smooth progress of the stadium’s construction while maintaining the integrity and safety of the Test match. The construction work, involving heavy equipment and tight schedules, was deemed too disruptive for live cricket due to potential noise pollution and dust, which could impact the players, officials, and spectators.

The move to Rawalpindi allows cricket fans to witness both Tests at the same venue, offering a preview of a packed international season for Pakistan. Between 21 August and 5 April, the national team is set to play nine Tests, 14 T20Is, and at least 17 ODIs.

A PCB spokesperson elaborated on the decision: “Construction experts have advised that while work could technically continue during play, the noise and dust would be detrimental to the players’ performance and overall experience. As uninterrupted construction is essential to ensure the National Bank Stadium is ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, we have opted to relocate both Test matches to Rawalpindi.”

The first Test against Bangladesh will commence on 21 August, followed by the second Test on 30 August. The PCB is also monitoring the situation concerning the scheduled Test against England in Karachi from 15-19 October and will continue to work with architects and construction experts to ensure safe and secure hosting.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ teams will continue their series in Islamabad. After a drawn first four-day match, the second four-day match will begin on 20 August at the Islamabad Club, followed by three 50-over matches on 26, 28, and 30 August.
