Peshawar’s team was bowled out for 258 runs in 80.1 overs on the first day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final against Sialkot. At the close of play, Sialkot had scored 8 runs without losing any wickets, with Mohammad Haris on 8 and Azan Awais on 0.
The five-day final is being played at the UBL Sports Complex, where Sialkot captain Imad Butt won the toss and elected to field first. Peshawar lost their first wicket at a total score of 16, when Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed for 6.
The second wicket fell at 44, when Israrullah was caught for 16. Peshawar suffered a major blow when their top scorer, Muazam Sadakat, was dismissed for 32, with four boundaries.
Nabi Gul scored 44, with seven boundaries, and Mehran Ibrahim contributed 31 runs before being dismissed. At 145-5, Peshawar’s hopes rested on the shoulders of Zubair Khan and Abuzar Tariq, who added 48 runs for the sixth wicket.
Zubair Khan scored 47, with six boundaries, before being dismissed by Ali Raza. Captain Sajid Khan chipped in with 23 runs, with four boundaries, and added 25 runs with Niaz Khan for the eighth wicket.
Niaz Khan scored 31 runs, with five boundaries, before being dismissed by Imad Butt, who finished with figures of 4-51. Ali Raza took three wickets, while Shoaib Akhtar Jr. claimed two scalps.
Sialkot’s openers, Mohammad Haris and Azan Awais, safely navigated the remaining overs to take their team to 8-0 at stumps.
