Peshawar Region clinched the U13 Inter-Region Tournament title with a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Lahore Region in a rain-affected final at the Jawad Club in Faisalabad on Friday. Leg-spinner Shoaib Khalid’s outstanding six-wicket haul restricted Lahore to a paltry 50 all out in 11.5 overs. In response, Peshawar chased down the target in the 10th over, losing four wickets along the way to lift the trophy.
Shoaib Khalid was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant spell of 6-7 that included three maidens in his three overs. Peshawar’s Mohammad Saad was unbeaten on 17 and ensured his team secured the victory. Lahore’s captain Mohammad Yaqoob Khan was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 21 runs from his three overs.
Earlier, opting to bat first, Lahore Region could only muster 50 runs as Peshawar’s bowlers ran riot. Opening batter Inshal Chaudhary was the only batsman to score in double figures, registering 16 runs. Shoaib Khalid was the standout bowler, as he ripped through Lahore’s top and middle order, notching up six wickets.
In the presentation ceremony, Shees Qadir of Dera Murad Jamali Region was named the best player of the tournament for his all-round performance. He scored 170 runs and bagged ten wickets. Abdullah Javed of Karachi Region was named the best batter of the tournament for his 348 runs, while Aliyan Shah of Peshawar Region was named the best bowler with 15 wickets. Sufiyan Kamran of Karachi Region was awarded the best wicketkeeper of the tournament for his 11 dismissals, while Sudais Ahmed of Abbottabad Region was named the best fielder of the tournament with seven catches.
The victory saw Peshawar Region pocket PKR 350,000 as the winning prize, while Lahore Region received PKR 250,000 as runners-up.
Overall, it was a great tournament for young cricketing talents, providing a platform for budding cricketers to showcase their skills and abilities in front of the cricket fraternity.
