The third round of the President’s Trophy in the 2023-24 cricket season brought forth a whirlwind of electrifying matches that unfolded with riveting displays of talent and strategic prowess. Ghani Glass took on Pakistan Television (PTV) in a thrilling encounter that witnessed stunning individual performances and remarkable team efforts.

Day One: Ghani Glass elected to bat first and found themselves in a precarious position at 48-4. Saad Nasim’s exceptional innings (150) propelled them to a commendable total of 319-9 in 80 overs. Saad Nasim’s masterful century, well-supported by Hussain Talat (49) and Shahbaz Javed (45), steered Ghani Glass away from early trouble. PTV’s bowlers showcased a decent effort, with Mohammad Sadaqat picking up three wickets.

In response, PTV faced early setbacks and ended the day at 0-2 in 1.5 overs, courtesy of Shoaib Akhtar’s double strike.

Day Two: Ghani Glass continued their dominance as PTV collapsed for 128 runs in their first innings. Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Rameez Jnr took four wickets each to restrict PTV’s batting lineup. Taimur Khan’s fifty and Mohammad Suleman’s contribution were not sufficient to avoid the follow-on.

PTV’s second innings saw a strong fightback with Taimur Khan (79 not out) and Mohammad Suleman (65) showcasing exceptional resilience, finishing the day at 183-2, still trailing by eight runs.

Day Three: PTV showcased immense determination in their second innings, setting a challenging target of 219 for Ghani Glass after posting 409 runs. Taimur Khan’s remarkable century (160) and Mohammad Suleman’s solid innings (106) propelled PTV’s batting effort. Despite a valiant attempt from Ghani Glass’ bowlers, Taimur Khan and Mohammad Suleman’s partnership made it a daunting chase.

Day Four: Ghani Glass showed resilience in the chase, achieving the target of 219 with ease. Sharjeel Khan’s brilliant century (109) and Tayyab Tahir’s unbeaten fifty (50 not out) steered Ghani Glass to a seven-wicket victory. The formidable partnership between Sharjeel Khan and Tayyab Tahir ensured Ghani Glass’ first win in the tournament.

KRL vs HEC at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi

The clash between Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) was a gripping battle of skills and determination.

Day One and Two: KRL amassed an impressive total of 411-7 in their first innings, propelled by Abdul Faseeh’s spectacular 153 and supported by contributions from Sharoon Siraj (64) and Waqar Ahmed (60). In response, HEC showcased a solid batting display, reaching 379-8 in their innings. Awais Zafar’s stellar century (111) and contributions from Saad Khan (67) and Ghazi Ghouri (56) led HEC’s charge.

Day Three: KRL’s decision to declare their second innings at 401-9, setting a target of 434, led to an intense battle. HEC displayed resilience in their chase, with Mohammad Huraira (67) and Saad Khan (68) leading the charge. However, KRL’s bowlers maintained the pressure, eventually bowling out HEC for 313.

Day Four: KRL secured a convincing 120-run victory over HEC as they dismissed the remaining batsmen. Despite valiant efforts from Saad Khan and Mohammad Huraira, KRL’s bowlers, particularly Rohan Qadri, Sharoon Siraj, and Arshadullah, proved too much for HEC’s batting lineup.

SNGPL vs SBP at State Bank Stadium, Karachi

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) faced State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in a thrilling encounter that saw both teams giving their all.

Day One and Two: SBP struggled in their first innings, posting 170 runs, courtesy of Shahnawaz Dahani’s fiery spell (6-40). SNGPL, after a shaky start, managed to score 305-8, led by Mubasir Khan’s unbeaten 84 and Asad Shafiq’s composed 77.

SBP fought back valiantly in their second innings, reaching 257. Rameez Aziz (80) and Muhammad Irfan Khan (75) displayed resilience against SNGPL’s bowlers.

Day Three and Four: SNGPL chased down the target of 123 runs, securing a six-wicket victory against SBP. Skipper Asad Shafiq’s unbeaten 47 anchored the chase, steering SNGPL to their second win in the tournament.
