PSL 2024 Player Draft Pick Order Announced: Quetta Gladiators to Make First Pick

In anticipation of the highly awaited Pakistan Super League 2024, the stage is set with the finalization of the Pick Order for the Player Draft. Quetta Gladiators have secured the coveted first pick in the PSL 9 Player Draft, followed by Karachi Kings and two-time champions Islamabad United, who will hold the second and third picks, respectively. Peshawar Zalmi and last season’s runners-up Multan Sultans will make the fourth and fifth picks, while the winners of the past two editions, Lahore Qalandars, will conclude the first round with the sixth pick.

The selection order for the initial round in the Platinum category aligns with the inverse order of the previous season’s standings. To ensure fairness, a different franchise will take the first pick in the first round of each category. Quetta Gladiators will initiate the Platinum picks, followed by Karachi Kings in the Diamond category. Peshawar Zalmi will have the opening Gold pick, while Multan Sultans will lead in the Silver category. Islamabad United will have the privilege of picking the first player in the Emerging category, and Lahore Qalandars will start the Supplementary picks.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier initiated the registration window for foreign players. The flagship event is tentatively slated to occur between February 8 and March 24, 2024.

The next step in the process involves franchisees submitting relegation requests for players before finalizing retentions. After the submission of relegation requests, teams will have the opportunity to match a player’s base category. Any players whose base category isn’t matched may potentially be relegated to a category below their base.

The BL PSL 9 Draft is tentatively scheduled for mid-December, immediately following the conclusion of the National T20, promising an exciting event ahead for cricket enthusiasts and franchise owners alike.
