PTV Clinches Second Win in President’s Trophy 2023-24, Defeating KRL by 155 Runs

Pakistan Television (PTV) displayed a commanding performance to secure their second victory in the ongoing President’s Trophy 2023-24, defeating Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by 155 runs in a thrilling encounter at the UBL Sports Complex in Karachi.

Batting first, PTV posted a formidable total of 360 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 80 overs, with Mohammad Suleman leading the charge with a brilliant century, scoring an unbeaten 101 runs. He was well-supported by Waqar Hussain (75) and Jahandad Khan (67). Despite efforts from KRL’s bowlers, including Ahmed Bashir (3-103) and Shayan Sheikh (2-57), PTV managed to set a challenging target.

In their second innings, PTV declared at 336-7, with Mohammad Suleman once again showcasing his batting prowess with an unbeaten 133, ably assisted by Waqar Hussain (109) and Hasan Mohsin (44). Maaz Sadaqat was the pick of KRL’s bowlers, claiming 5 wickets for 80 runs.

Chasing a daunting target of 426 runs for victory, KRL put up a valiant effort but fell short as they were bowled out for 270 runs in 61.1 overs. Despite contributions from Abdul Faseeh (103) and Sharoon Siraj (41), KRL couldn’t match PTV’s dominant performance. Faisal Akram was the standout bowler for PTV, claiming 4 wickets for 87 runs.

Earlier in the match, PTV’s Mohammad Suleman and Waqar Hussain had laid a solid foundation with their impressive batting displays, setting the stage for their team’s victory.

With this win, PTV strengthens its position in the tournament, while KRL, despite a valiant effort, faces disappointment. The President’s Trophy continues to witness intense competition as teams vie for supremacy in the upcoming matches.

In other matches of the sixth round, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) emerged victorious against Ghani Glass and Higher Education Commission (HEC) respectively.

The competition remains fierce as the final round of the President’s Trophy is set to commence on January 21 at various venues across Karachi.
