Rain Hampers Play as Pakistan’s Batsmen Shine on Day Two of Second Test

The second day of the second Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo was marred by rain, with only 10 overs of play possible on Tuesday.

Having resumed their first innings at the overnight score of 145 for two in 28.3 overs, Pakistan managed to add 33 runs in the shortened play without losing any wickets. Rain interrupted the first session, and unfortunately, the weather conditions didn’t improve, leading to the day being called off without any further play.

Abdullah Shafique, who was unbeaten on 74 at the end of the first day, continued his impressive form and went on to score an unbeaten 87 off 131 balls. His innings included eight boundaries and two sixes, showcasing his commanding presence at the crease. Captain Babar Azam also made a valuable contribution, adding 20 runs to his overnight score to remain unbeaten on 28 off 49 balls, which included three fours and a six.

At stumps, Pakistan reached 178 for two in 38.3 overs, taking a lead of 12 runs over Sri Lanka’s first-innings total of 166 all out in 48.4 overs on the opening day.

Despite the weather interruptions, Pakistan’s batsmen put up a strong show, led by Abdullah Shafique’s superb innings, leaving them in a favorable position at the end of day two. The team will be eager to make the most of the remaining days of the Test match to secure a decisive victory over Sri Lanka.
