Saad Baig to Lead Pakistan in ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup

In an announcement made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today, Saad Baig has been appointed as the captain to lead the 15-player Pakistan U19 squad in the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. Scheduled to take place from 19th January to 11th February 2024 in South Africa, this tournament promises a platform for emerging talents to showcase their cricketing prowess on a global stage.

The squad includes seasoned players such as Ali Asfand and Mohammad Zeeshan, both of whom have previously represented Pakistan in the U19 World Cup held in West Indies during January-February 2022.

The Pakistan U19 squad comprises Saad Baig (captain and wicketkeeper), Ali Asfand (vice-captain), Ali Raza, Ahmad Hassan, Amir Hassan, Arfat Minhas, Azan Awais, Haroon Arshad, Khubaib Khalil, Mohammad Zeeshan, Naveed Ahmed Khan, Shahzaib Khan, Shamyl Hussain, Muhammad Riazullah, and Ubaid Shah.

Chairman of the Junior Selection Committee, Sohail Tanvir, expressed his congratulations to the selected 15 players, expressing confidence in the well-rounded capabilities and potential of the squad to excel in the forthcoming World Cup. Tanvir further emphasized the selection process considering the conditions prevalent in South Africa, with a focus on assembling a team capable of excelling on pitches favoring pace bowling while ensuring the team covers all facets of the game.

The support staff accompanying the squad includes Shoaib Mohammad as Team Manager, Mohammad Yousaf as Head Coach, Rehan Riaz as Bowling Coach, Mansoor Amjad as Fielding Coach, Muhammad Masroor as Assistant Batting Coach, Umer Rashid Dar as Assistant Coach, Hafiz Naeem Ul Rasul as Team Physio, Usman Hashmi as Team Analyst, and Imran Ullah as Strength & Conditioning Coach.

The selected players are scheduled to convene for a rigorous training camp in Lahore from 28th December 2023 to 6th January 2024, gearing up for the pinnacle event where they will strive to exhibit their talent, determination, and potential on the international stage.
