Saad Baig, the young cricket sensation, will continue to lead the Pakistan U19 team as they gear up to face Sri Lanka U19 in an upcoming home series set to be held in Karachi. The two teams are scheduled to compete in a solitary four-day match followed by a series of five 50-over matches.
The recently appointed seven-member junior selection committee, headed by the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq, has diligently chosen the 16-member Pakistan U19 squad for the upcoming four-day match, scheduled to take place from October 15th to 18th. The squad for the one-day series will be announced in the following week, with the one-day fixtures set to be played at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi from October 22nd to 31st.
Saad Baig, who led the Pakistan U19 team during their tour of Bangladesh earlier this year, will have a blend of experienced players at his disposal. Eight players from the playing XI in the only four-day match of the Bangladesh tour have been retained in the squad. These players include Ali Asfand, Amir Hassan, Arafat Minhas, Azan Awais, Mohammad Ibtisam, Mohammad Ismail, Shahzaib Khan, and Wahaj Riaz.
The remaining seven players in the 16-member squad have showcased their talent in the ongoing National U19 Championship 2023-24. Their performances have caught the eye of selectors and fans alike. Notable performers in the National U19 Championship include Ahmed Hussain (Peshawar U19), Hamza Nawaz (Bahawalpur U19), Huzaifa Ayub (Bahawalpur U19), Mohammad Zubair (Peshawar U19), Naveed Ahmed Khan (Karachi Whites U19), and Shahmeer Ali (Rawalpindi U19). Aimal Khan, the seventh player in the squad, is currently representing the FATA Region in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24, where he has already made an impact with six wickets in two outings.
The Pakistan U19 squad is set to assemble at the team hotel on Tuesday night and will commence their training at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi over the following two days. The team management and training schedule will be announced shortly.
