Sadia Imam, while talking at a television show, made revelation as she claimed to be the lyricist of some of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s famous Bollywood songs. The songs she claimed were Jia Dhadak Dhadak from Kalyug and Zindagi Kay Safar Mei from Life in a Metro.
Sadia mentioned that she was never credited for the songs as Rahat did not want to share in Bollywood that the songs are a Pakistani writer’s creations, however, she said she believed the real reason was that the makers of the said movies did not want to pay her.
“My name isn’t in the credits because Rahat is a really good friend of mine. When I wrote the song I didn’t realize that it will turn out to be this good after the composition and music,” Sadia said.
“I gave the lyrics to him (Rahat) and ethically if Rahat felt he should have acknowledged me for writing the song, it would have been great because the song would have remained on my credits forever,” she further added.
Leading publication Express Tribune reached out to Faisal Rafi, co-producer of Zindagi Kay Safar Mei and he categorically denied Sadia’s claims. Musician said:
“These are baseless claims. The entire song was made in my presence. Rahat came up with the melody in a taxi. We then went to Rohail’s place where he arranged and made the music for the Bollywood hit single. Lyricist Asim Raza was then called in to pen down the lyrics which he did then and there while sitting at Rohail’s place.”
Rahat’s management team also reiterated Faisal’s comment. RFAK business director said while talking to the leading publication:
“It is in bad taste that when the whole world is celebrating Khan Saheb’s Doctorate from Oxford University, Ms. Imam would bring up something like this, that too after so many years. Even if she still claims that she is the brain behind penning the songs then she is more than welcome to present any proof, confirming the same.”
