Sarfaraz Ahmed Makes History, Becomes First Pakistani Wicketkeeper-Batter to Score 3,000 Test Runs

Sarfaraz Ahmed etched his name in the record books on Monday as he became the first wicketkeeper from Pakistan to score 3,000 runs in Test cricket. The achievement came during the first innings of the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle.

In his 91st Test innings, Sarfaraz reached the milestone with a boundary, solidifying his position as the 20th Pakistani batsman to surpass the 3,000-run mark in the longest format of the game. Notably, he is the first wicketkeeper-batsman from Pakistan to achieve this feat.

Having made his Test debut in 2010 against Australia in Hobart, Sarfaraz has accumulated an impressive record with 21 fifties and four centuries in his career so far. His most recent century came earlier this year against New Zealand, where his crucial innings helped Pakistan secure a draw in the second Test.

Despite a modest contribution of 17 runs off 15 balls in the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka, Sarfaraz showcased his skills behind the stumps by taking four catches in the first innings. This performance was a fitting response to his critics, who had questioned his selection for the match and criticized his wicketkeeping abilities.

Sarfaraz had faced criticism for his performance in Pakistan’s previous Test against New Zealand in Karachi, where he dropped catches and missed stumping opportunities. However, he proved his worth by demonstrating his proficiency with the gloves in the ongoing match, silencing his detractors and affirming his place in the team.

With Sarfaraz’s achievement, he adds another feather to his cap and strengthens his legacy as one of Pakistan’s most accomplished wicketkeeper-batsmen in Test cricket.
