Day three of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-2024 witnessed a display of exceptional cricket as both Lahore Whites and Karachi Whites declared their innings after posting formidable scores exceeding 400 in their respective matches.
Lahore Whites v Rawalpindi
After a rain-interrupted second day that saw only 10.3 overs bowled, Lahore Whites resumed their innings at 407-3 on the third day. However, the first session was lost due to the wet outfield, and the decision was made to declare the innings without adding any further runs. Rawalpindi, in response, had a solid start with their openers forming a partnership of 107 runs. Abdul Faseeh and Ashfaq Ahmed showcased their batting prowess with Abdul Faseeh scoring a century and Ashfaq Ahmed reaching a half-century.
At the end of the day, Rawalpindi reached a score of 232-1, firmly positioned in the match.
Karachi Whites v Faisalabad
Karachi Whites began day three with their two experienced batsmen, Asad Shafiq and Sarfaraz Ahmed, at the crease. The pair displayed outstanding resilience and skill, with Asad Shafiq and Sarfaraz Ahmed remaining unbeaten with scores of 108* and 128*, respectively. Their remarkable partnership of 234 runs propelled Karachi Whites to a commanding total of 434-5 before declaring their innings.
Faisalabad faced a daunting task as they came out to bat, trailing by a massive 434 runs. The pressure of the scoreboard weighed heavily on Faisalabad’s batters, and they found themselves struggling at 63-6 by the end of the day.
Peshawar v Multan
In the Peshawar vs. Multan encounter, the first day had ended with Peshawar at 43-2 after 17 overs. The second day was marred by rain and unfavorable ground conditions, resulting in no play.
On the third day, Peshawar resumed their innings at 43-2, but they encountered difficulties in sustaining partnerships. Kamran Ghulam played a crucial role with a remarkable knock of 117 runs, and Abbas Ali contributed 34 runs. However, the Multan bowlers, led by Sirajuddin and Majid Ali, kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Peshawar was eventually bowled out for 263, with Sirajuddin claiming a four-wicket haul and Majid Ali bagging three wickets.
Multan will begin their batting innings on the following day.
FATA v Lahore Blues
Lahore Blues commenced their third day at 83-3, with Qasim Akram and Hussain Talat at the crease. Qasim Akram’s half-century and contributions from Waqas Ahmed (53) and Junaid Ali (49) helped Lahore Blues post a total of 314, securing a lead of 174 runs.
FATA, already trailing in the game, faced early setbacks in their innings. Khushdil Shah and Salman Khan Jnr displayed resilience, forming an unbeaten partnership worth 79 runs by the end of the day. FATA concluded the day at 127-4.
